Two enormous mechanical ants were constructed to avoid photographic special effects, which are quite difficult when using 3D effects.
The film was intended to be shot in color and 3D, but a last-minute budget cut resulted in it being filmed in black and white.
Filming took place in Los Angeles and California.
When the film was first released in Sweden, it was mistakenly titled “Spindlarna” ("Spiders").
