What's left behind the scenes
- As with other works by Mike Leigh, the film's screenplay relied heavily on actor improvisation, which allowed for a realistic portrayal of the characters' feelings and relationships. For example, actresses Brenda Blethyn and Marianne Jean-Baptiste met for the first time on set during the scene where their characters meet.
