• Despite playing the role of Alfred Kinsey's father, John Lithgow is only seven years older than Liam Neeson in real life.
• To prepare for the role, Laura Linney gained 9 kilograms by eating mostly glazed donuts.
• Shortly before the end of the film, as Dr. Kinsey and his wife head to the airport, Dr. Kinsey asks what time their flight is. His wife replies that they still have a couple of hours, and Dr. Kinsey suggests, since they have time, to take a walk in the woods. There was a time (before the September 11, 2001 attacks) when a passenger could arrive at the airport a few minutes before departure.
• In a commentary on the DVD release, screenwriter and director Bill Condon stated that he wanted to incorporate a scene from the 1951-1957 television series “I Love Lucy” into the film, in which one of the characters jokes about the research of Dr. Alfred Kinsey (1894-1956). According to Condon, he was not given permission for this. Permission was denied by actress Lucie Arnaz, the daughter of Lucille Ball (1911-1989) and Desi Arnaz (1917-1986), who stated that her parents would not want to be associated with Kinsey.
