Short description
A young female embezzler arrives at the Bates Motel, which has terrible secrets of its own.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In the episode where Ann Heche's character approaches the car dealership where she is supposed to trade in her car, she passes a bus stop with a poster for the film "Six Days, Seven Nights" (1998), in which Heche starred with Harrison Ford.
  • Viggo Mortensen starred in another remake of an Alfred Hitchcock film that same year – "A Perfect Murder." In both films, he plays the lover of the main character, both films feature a bed scene with his participation, and also a crime involving the same amount of $400,000.
  • During filming, director Gus Van Sant and the film crew watched a DVD recording of Hitchcock's "Psycho" to do everything the same way as in the original film. When Van Sant noticed errors in that film (a door opening without a key, a bloodstain on the bathroom wall unexpectedly disappearing), he decided to repeat them in the remake.
  • Robert Forster starred in the television version of Hitchcock's famous film "Rear Window" the same year.
  • Gus Van Sant appears on screen in the episode where Marion returns to her office after lunch. In this scene, Van Sant is talking to someone who looks very much like Hitchcock. Hitchcock himself appeared in the same episode at one time.
  • The motel set was built specifically for this film, but it looks exactly the same as in Hitchcock's film.
  • The motel sign reads: "completely renovated".
  • Nicole Kidman and Drew Barrymore were considered for the role of Marion. Kidman was busy with other projects, and Barrymore was deemed too young for the role.
  • The blood on the tiled floor, the knife, and Marion's wounds were added digitally during post-production.
  • The film is based on Robert Bloch's novel "Psycho" (1959).
