What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was shot in Salt Lake City, Utah, just like the previous installment.
  • The start date of filming was May 1, 1989.
  • Often, all editions are titled “Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers,” but the credits simply state “Halloween 5.”
  • The store across from where the Man in Black gets out is the same store where Rachel and Jamie go to get a costume in the previous film.
  • The scene where Michael Myers rides in a car with Tina was originally planned to have him wearing a Ronald Reagan mask, but this idea was rejected to avoid any political subtext.
  • This was the only part of 'Halloween' that was not released theatrically in Italy.
  • The reasons why the producers decided to use one of the abandoned houses in Utah as the Myers house, rather than return to the original house in South Pasadena, are unknown.
  • Several shots featuring the Man in Black were reshot in the UK for unknown reasons, and the name of the British extra who appeared in those shots remains unknown.
  • The Man in Black was played by Don Shanks (Michael Myers) in many scenes. Shanks admitted that none of the writers were sure at the time about the origin of this character, and Shanks played him because the belief was that this man was some kind of relative of the Myers family.
  • It was supposed to be that Rachel would die from a scissor stab to the throat, but Ellie Cornell decided that was too horrific an end for her character, so the scene was altered slightly.
  • The producers tasked KNB Effects with devising grotesque disfigurement makeup for the scene where Michael removes his mask, or simply casting a shadow over his face. They opted for the latter.
  • A shot of Michael wounding Jamie's ankle with a knife during the scene where Jamie crawls through the laundry chute was cut from the film to avoid a harsh rating. You can even see that when Jamie emerges from the chute, one of her ankles is bleeding and Jamie herself is limping.
  • Approximately 30 different sections of the laundry chute were built for the scene where Jamie crawls through it. Some were horizontal, others vertical, and some had only three walls (for side-angle shots). Although this scene was very complex both mechanically and physically, it was filmed in just one night.
