- This film was Sturges' last work.
- Caine was initially offered the role of Devlin, but he didn't want to play a member of the IRA and asked if he could play Steiner instead. The role of Devlin went to Richard Harris, but due to his feeling that there was a real connection to IRA funding, Donald Sutherland ultimately played the part.
