Short description
Charles Brady and his mother, Mary, are the last of a dying breed whose needs are not of this world. They are Sleepwalkers - able to stay alive only by feeding on the life-force of the innocent, but destined to roam the earth, avoiding discovery while searching for their next victim. That search takes them to the sleepy little town of Travis, Indiana, where beautiful teenager Tanya Robertson is about to become an unwilling pawn in their nightmarish fight for survival.

What's left behind the scenes

  • It is believed to be the first film based on an original screenplay by Stephen King, rather than adapting one of his works in any way. In fact, this isn't entirely true: Stephen King used the plot of one of his unpublished stories to create the screenplay.
  • The film was shot entirely in Los Angeles, California.
  • Stephen King appeared in the film as the cemetery caretaker.
  • The lunatic asylum is the same house used for filming the popular family television series "The Waltons" (1972-81).
  • In the cemetery scene, the name of the film's assistant director – Jenny Hicks – can be read on a tombstone behind Charles Brady's right shoulder.
  • During the chase scene with the patrol car pursuing Charles Brady, it can be noticed that the odometer in Charles's car spins backward – a clear reference to Stephen King's novel "Christine" (and its film adaptation by John Carpenter).
  • Later, Charles' car changes from blue to bright red – this can also be seen as an allusion to "Christine".
  • While shooting Mary Brady in Tanya Robertson's house, Deputy Horace shatters the same glass or crystal vase with yellow flowers twice with a single shot.
  • In the film's prologue, as Lieutenant Jennings and another police officer walk past a police car while talking, a microphone can be seen reflected in its rear window.
  • At the end of the film, Tanya cuts her hand on a shard of glass in the window. However, the glass disappears in the next shot.
  • After receiving a blast of buckshot in the back, Charles Brady gets into his car and drives home. When he gets out of the car, the bloody hole from the impact on his back vanishes without a trace.
