To ensure the birds weren't frightened by the sounds made by people and film cameras, the filmmakers began acclimating some birds to them even before they hatched from their eggs.
The episode in which a goose gets stuck in an industrial settling pond was deliberately staged by the filmmakers. The bird was immediately freed after the episode was filmed.
However, the episode with the injured tern surrounded by crabs was not pre-planned. The bird was rescued by the film crew immediately after filming – almost at the last moment.
