Short description
The true story of rushed investigations, political interference, and the grasp for corporate accountability woven amongst heart wrenching flashbacks of the Titanic disaster as it unfolded.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film exclusively used authentic automobiles manufactured before 1912. All the cars were in perfect condition. Some of them were transported to the filming location by trailer, while most arrived under their own power, driven by their owners.
  • The roles of the corpses in the cold waters of the North Atlantic were played by employees of the props department, dressed accordingly. Between takes, they were occupied with pushing lifeboats out of frame and trying to keep pieces of ice (made of wax) and various debris within the camera's view.
  • Scenes with the lifeboats in the North Atlantic were filmed in a public swimming pool, closed to the public for the duration of filming. Its bottom was painted black and an appropriate backdrop was constructed. The pool, called “Ligonier Beach,” was located an hour and a half east of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. It held over 4,900,000 liters. At one time, it was the largest swimming pool in the United States. The effect of a turbulent sea was achieved by pushing iron barrels for petroleum products into the water.
  • Annie Kitral played Ida Straus in the film, the wife of Isidor Straus, founder and co-owner of the “Macy's” department store chain. Upon learning that her husband intended to remain on board the sinking “Titanic” with the other men, she refused to take a place in a lifeboat, stating: “I will not leave my husband. We have always been together, and together we shall die.”
