What's left behind the scenes

  • The film’s set design required the use of many rare posters of old films and various props from the sets of famous pictures, and all of this had to be found first. The cost of the props varied from $10 to $500, and some props could not be bought at all, as the owners refused to part with them, so they could only be borrowed for a time.
  • Initially, the film was to be shot in Manhattan and on Long Island, but due to a strike by film industry workers in New York in the summer of 1971, filming was moved to San Francisco.
  • In the scene where Woody Allen's character dries his hair with a hairdryer, the airflow knocks down most of the medicine in the cabinet on the wall, but in the next shot, they are all back in their original places.
