What's left behind the scenes

  • The film's epigraph: "People, even without knowing each other, must one day meet; anything can happen to each of them as they go their separate ways, but on the appointed day they will inevitably meet in the red circle." Melville came up with it himself, but attributed authorship to Ram Krishna.
  • The button for the security system in the jewelry store was labeled JPM. These are the initials of the film's director, Jean-Pierre Melville.
  • According to the director, he conceived the scene of the jewelry store robbery in 1950, 20 years before the film's release.
  • The robbery scene lasts 25 minutes, and not a single word is spoken on screen during the entire time.
  • Filming took place from January 26 to April 13, 1970.
  • The epigraph to the film: “People, even without knowing each other, must one day meet; anything can happen to each of them as they go their separate ways, but on the appointed day they will inevitably meet in a red circle.” Melville came up with it himself, but attributed authorship to Ram Krishna.
