What's left behind the scenes
- The name Google originated from a misspelling of the word 'googol' – a number with one hundred zeros. This name was chosen to symbolize the ability of search engines to provide a vast amount of information.
- Google founder Sergey Brin appears in the film twice.
- Director Shawn Levy appeared in a cameo role as a disgruntled Google employee trying to nap while Nick talks to Dana.
- The film featured 100 genuine Google employees in cameo roles.
- Filming at 'Googleplex', Google’s headquarters, lasted for 5 days, but most of the film was shot at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, where the premises were decorated to resemble 'Googleplex'.
- Google did not pay for the use of its name and image in the film, but still had a say in how its products were depicted on screen. For example, the filmmakers initially intended to include a scene of an accident involving a self-driving car, but Google demanded the scene be removed altogether, as self-driving cars were not yet on the market.
