Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez were considered for the role of Dina Lake. After their refusals, Rosario Dawson was cast in the role.

The long-suffering film, with a very substantial budget for that time (100,000,000), was only released in the summer of 2002, where it suffered a disastrous failure.
