The plot of the screenplay is based on a real-life case from the life of François Ozon, the film's director, screenwriter, and producer. One of his aunts prepared mushrooms for relatives that she had gathered herself in the forest. Soon everyone fell ill – with the exception of her, as she did not eat the mushrooms. Ozon always suspected that his aunt intended to poison everyone.
