Short description

What's left behind the scenes

  • Toshiro Mifune (1920-1997) brought the necessary ingredients with him to the set and constantly treated the crew and actors to various culinary delights. Among other things, he exchanged recipes for traditional Japanese cuisine for recipes for French and Italian dishes.
  • The film made Charles Bronson (1921-2003) a major star in Japan. Around the same time, Bronson advertised a certain Japanese perfume and earned $100,000 for just 4 days of work.
  • The Japanese ambassador was played by Tetsu Nakamura (1908-1992), an actor who spoke excellent English. It is said that Toshiro Mifune, who didn't know English at all, learned his lines with Nakamura's help.
