The film was shot in the Czech Republic – in the cities of Prague and Kutná Hora.
The film's director, Courtney Solomon, acquired the rights to adapt the role-playing game of the same name, upon which this film is based, back in 1991, when he was 21 years old, and spent almost ten years searching for funding for 'Dungeons & Dragons'.
In an alternate ending, Empress Savina destroys the staff and proclaims the main characters the rulers of Izmir. However, the director found this version so foolish that he didn't even include it on the DVD release.
