What's left behind the scenes

  • Despite appearing together in several wonderful films, Jean Gabin and Louis de Funès hated each other in real life. Jean Gabin envied Louis de Funès's fame, considered him an upstart, and couldn't stand the fact that producers always listened to the famous comedian. De Funès, in turn, constantly improvised and changed the script to his liking while filming, which also infuriated Gabin. De Funès couldn't tolerate Gabin's arrogance and his fear of deviating even a step from the written script.
  • Louis de Funès and Jean Gabin met in this film for the third and final time in their careers. They first starred together in Claude Autant-Lara's film 'Through Paris' in 1956, followed by the 1962 comedy 'A Gentleman from Epsom'.
