What's left behind the scenes

  • At the beginning, during the credits, the legs of two cyborgs appear on the screen, shown in a way that suggests they belong to a single being. This is a reference to the works of German graphic artist, sculptor, painter, and writer Hans Bellmer (1902-1975). Later, one of his books will also be shown on screen.
  • The music playing in the Dollhouse was produced by a genuine music box made by the Japanese company Sankyo Seiki. First, the sound was recorded in a studio. Then, the recording was played in 5.1 surround sound in a former quarry and re-recorded to give the sound additional volume.
  • The minor character, forensic scientist Mrs. Haraway, is a reference to Donna Haraway, a distinguished professor in the Feminist Studies Department and the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Haraway is considered one of the founders of cyberfeminism and a central figure in posthumanism (a worldview based on the idea that human evolution is not complete and can be continued in the future).
