- One of the reasons for the film's creation was a letter from Sonny Barger, president of the Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels MC, to U.S. Vice President Lyndon Johnson expressing the bikers' desire to benefit America and go to the Vietnam War (Johnson did not respond to the letter).
