What's left behind the scenes

  • The film largely incorporated the identically titled 18-minute short film, which was nominated for an Oscar in 2006.
  • Production of the full-length film began more than a year after work on the short film was completed. In December 2004, director and screenwriter Sean Ellis decided to develop the plot and wrote the film's screenplay in seven days. In March 2005, he reached agreements with all the key actors, then secured funding, and in May of the same year, filming began, lasting 25 days.
  • The budget did not allow for the purchase of uniforms for the supermarket employees, so the actors filmed in their own clothes.
  • At the end of the film (credits), the popular song "What Else Is There?" (number 1 in the UK Dance Chart in 2005) by the Norwegian group Röyksopp plays.
  • The shampoo that Barry and Matt referred to as "help for women" (because it was phallic in shape) is a genuine Umberto Giannini brand.
