What's left behind the scenes

  • The idea for the script came to screenwriter, director, and producer Michael Winner (1935-2013) after a difficult breakup with a woman.
  • During post-production, Michael Winner needed Oliver Reed (1938-1999) to re-record one scene. Winner called the hotel in Hempstead (a district in London) where the actor was staying, and was told that Mr. Reed had left the hotel the previous evening, had gotten drunk somewhere, and was detained near the entrance to the subway station. Winner began calling the relevant police station, and the officer on duty told him that no charges were filed against Reed because he had simply charmed all the staff. A few minutes later, a taxi stopped near Winner’s house, and Reed got out of the car. He was simply unable to do any voiceover work. According to Winner, the actor was very ashamed that he had spent the previous night in a holding cell. It was the last time Winner saw him alive.
