Short description
A government scheme sees newly widowed Santosh inherit her husband’s job as a police constable in the rural badlands of Northern India. When a low-caste girl is found raped and murdered, she is pulled into the investigation under the wing of charismatic feminist inspector Sharma.
What's left behind the scenes
- Previously, director and screenwriter Sandhya Suri had only made documentaries, and her first fictional film was inspired by a real-life case of gang rape in New Delhi. Before filming began, she spoke with several widows of police officers who went on to join the police force themselves after their husbands' deaths.
- In Hindi, "santosh" means contentment.
