Short description
An unhappy car dealer believes that a dime-store philosopher has the answers to life's important questions.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In the Rozwater office, among the paintings on the wall, one can notice a self-portrait of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (the author of the book).
  • Riding the wave of the box office success of Robert Altman’s musical comedy “Nashville” (1975), producer Dino De Laurentiis bought the rights to adapt Kurt Vonnegut Jr.’s novel for Altman. Altman invited Peter Falk to play Dwayne Hoover, Alice Cooper to play his son Bunny, Sterling Hayden to play Kilgore Trout, and Ruth Gordon to play Eliot Rosewater (considering Rosewater’s age, Altman decided a woman could play the role as well). However, when Altman’s film “Buffalo Bill and the Indians” (1976), which De Laurentiis produced, flopped, all these plans fell through, and a different crew for the “Breakfast of Champions” project cast different actors.
