The film is based on Elmore Leonard's «The Big Bounce», which had already been adapted for the cinema in 1969. Ryan O’Neal played the main role in the film at that time, and the action took place in a small town in Michigan.
The role of Bob Rogers Jr. could have gone to Matt LeBlanc, but it later went to Charlie Sheen.
