Short description
Harassed by classmates who won't accept his shocking appearance, a shy young man known as "Powder" struggles to fit in. But the cruel taunts stop when Powder displays a mysterious power that allows him to do incredible things. This phenomenon changes the lives of all those around him in ways they never could have imagined.

What's left behind the scenes

  • John Carpenter was offered to direct the film, but he declined, not wanting to be distracted from filming the horror films "In the Mouth of Madness" (1994) and "Village of the Damned" (1995). Victor Salva ended up directing the film.
  • Christopher Reeve was offered the role of Donald Ripley, but when he turned it down, it went to Jeff Goldblum.
  • One scene shows a cinema marquee advertising the horror film "The Nature of the Beast" (1995). It was also directed by Victor Salva, and Lance Henriksen, who played Sheriff Barnum in "Powder," had a role in it.
  • Nathan Forrest Winters, who starred in Victor Salva's horror film "Clownhouse" (1988), protested the release of "Powder," filing a lawsuit against Salva (and winning it) for harassment during the filming of "Clownhouse," when Winters was only 12 years old. The studio management ignored the protests, stating that they were unaware of Salva's inappropriate behavior, that Winters only objected to "Powder" when filming was already well underway, and that there were no minors in the cast of "Powder."
