What's left behind the scenes

  • Mia Farrow wears sunglasses for most of the film because Woody Allen feared she wouldn't be able to portray a rebellious Italian woman, and forced her to wear sunglasses to hide her eyes and make her image more sultry and mysterious. The only time she removes her sunglasses is when she needs to appear more vulnerable.
  • The owner of the grocery store who tells Danny about the fate of one of the film's characters was the actual co-owner of the legendary Carnegie Deli, where the scene was filmed. He was a former comedian and actor named Leo Steiner, who had retained his Screen Actors Guild card. He was cast when it turned out that the actors Woody Allen had brought in for the role were unsuitable.
  • Woody Allen initially offered the role of Nick Apollo Forte to Sylvester Stallone.
  • Dissatisfied with the initial takes of the scene where Danny tries to sell acts to Phil Honsky, director Woody Allen wanted to reshoot it, replacing comedian and singer David I. Kiesel in the role of the owner of Weinstein's Majestic Bungalow Colony. Kiesel persistently called it Mrs. Weinberg's Bungalow Colony during filming, and the irritated Allen asked the actor why he kept repeating this. Kiesel explained that his wife always bought kosher chopped liver with the name Mrs. Weinberg's Chopped Liver, and he was constantly thinking about it. Allen laughed at this, but still wrote the words Weinstein's Majestic Bungalow Colony on the top of a cabinet in the office. When watching this scene, you can see Kiesel reading these words from the cabinet as a cue.
  • In one scene, Danny passes by a movie theater with an advertisement for Halloween III (1982) visible, while the events of the film take place in 1970.
  • When Danny arrives to pick up Tina, he tells her that he parked on the second row. When she then crosses the street with Danny, it is visible that the car is parked normally. But shortly after that, when Danny uses a payphone, a car parked on the second row is visible in the background.
