What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on real events. Between 1974 and 1979, a 5-meter-long saltwater crocodile appeared in Australia, attacking motor and rowboats, and fishing vessels, but it did not eat a single person. Hunters eventually managed to catch the reptile, but during transportation, the crocodile drowned. Its stuffed remains are now on display at the Northern Territory Museum (a constituent entity of the Australian Federation).
  • Filming of the scene in which Sam Worthington’s character falls into the water had to be postponed due to reports that a 5-meter crocodile had been spotted nearby. The actor refused to get into the water, and after several hours, director Greg McLean himself jumped into the water and swam to shore to show Worthington that there was no danger. The scene was filmed, and it was only later discovered that the reptile had been found several weeks earlier and moved to another area.
  • The bar’s walls are decorated with genuine crocodile photographs.
