Short description
Ace is an impressionable young man working for a dry cleaning business. His friend, drug dealer Mitch, goes to prison. In an unrelated incident, he finds some cocaine in a pants pocket. Soon, Ace finds himself dealing cocaine for Lulu. Via lucky breaks and solid interpersonal skills, Ace moves to the top of the Harlem drug world. Of course, unfaithful employees and/or rivals conspire to bring about Ace's fall.
What's left behind the scenes
- The plot is based on the true story of Azizi Faison Jr., Alberto Martinez, and Richard Porter (1965-1990), who controlled a large part of the drug trade in New York in the 1980s.
- It is claimed that Azizi Faison Jr. repeatedly accused producer Damon Dash of making significant changes to the script to soften the depictions of events that actually occurred. He claims that the original version presented to Dash was simply a cautionary tale about how drugs ruin the lives of African Americans.
