Short description
Daniel Lugo, manager of the Sun Gym in 1990s Miami, decides that there is only one way to achieve his version of the American dream: extortion. To achieve his goal, he recruits musclemen Paul and Adrian as accomplices. After several failed attempts, they abduct rich businessman Victor Kershaw and convince him to sign over all his assets to them. But when Kershaw makes it out alive, authorities are reluctant to believe his story.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Michael Bay postponed work on this film several times, preferring "Transformers." He noted that he wanted to shoot a small film with a modest budget for a change.
  • Albert Brooks was considered for the role in the film, but a contract was not signed, and John Turturro took his place. Ultimately, Turturro left the project due to scheduling conflicts, and the role went to Tony Shalhoub.
  • With a budget of around $20 million, this film became Michael Bay's lowest-budget project since the release of his debut film, 'Bad Boys' (1995). Bay, Mark Wahlberg, and Dwayne Johnson had to take pay cuts to stay within budget.
  • Specifically for his role as a bodybuilder in this film, Mark Wahlberg increased his weight to 96 kilograms.
  • The first film by Michael Bay to receive an R rating since the release of 'Bad Boys II' (2003).
  • Mark Wahlberg said that his sons were thrilled when he gained muscle mass for his role, while his daughters, on the contrary, did not like it.
  • During the filming of this movie, Mark Wahlberg was working on his own line of bodybuilding products. And, according to him, he effectively gained muscle mass using his own supplements.
  • One of the detectives arresting John Mize is armed with a Glock 17 3rd generation pistol, which appeared after 1995.
  • Some of the weapons from the arsenal of police officers and special forces, as well as the tactical accessories used on them, appeared after 1995, for example, Colt Model 933 carbines and Glock 34 pistols, one of which is visible during the raid on Adrian Dorbal's house.
  • The film takes place in 1995-1996, but the police use a second-generation Ford Crown Victoria, which began production in 1998.
  • The car driven by Dwayne Johnson's character is a Plymouth Prowler. It began production in 1997, which is later than the events depicted in the film.
  • When the priest hands a drink to Dwayne Johnson (in a glass with ice and Pepsi), a lime wedge falls off the edge of the glass, and in the very next shot, as Dwayne Johnson is about to drink, the lime is back in place.
  • During the chase after Dwayne Johnson following the failed armored car robbery, when he is swimming, he is shot in the left leg. In the water, he holds his left leg, but in the very next shot he is running along the pier with his right leg shot on the other side.
  • At 37:19, when Paul Doyle opens the glass door to Victor Kershaw’s company, the reflection clearly shows the camera, the operator, and another member of the film crew.
  • At 09:25, a Mazda 3 (BL), which was released in 2009, is visible in the background, which does not match the time period in which the film's events take place.
