The film explores the theme of the so-called moral panic surrounding “Broken Britain.” This term was used by the Conservative Party from 2007 to 2010 to describe the alleged widespread state of social decay in the country during the tenure of Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown. (The sociological term “moral panic” describes the spread of mass hysteria in society regarding something supposedly threatening the safety of society and/or its moral values.)
When Jenny, played by Kelly Reilly, looks in the mirror before killing Cooper (played by Thomas Turgoose), the words “The most dangerous animal of all living in the forest” can be seen in the reflection.
Towards the end of the film, one of the gang members erases the video recordings of the crimes and acts of violence committed by the gang. The files are too small (the size of one of them, for example, is 29 KB) to be video files.
