Short description
Jack Ryan, as a young covert CIA analyst, uncovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The author of the Jack Ryan literary world is American writer Tom Clancy. The first novel dates back to 1984, the last – about Jack Ryan Jr., his son – to 2010.
  • Felicity Jones, Evangeline Lilly, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel were also considered for the role of Cathy Ryan, Jack Ryan's wife, which went to Keira Knightley.
  • Part of the filming took place in Moscow at the Mosfilm studio and in the center of the capital (near the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Kremlin, the Kremlin Embankment, on the Big Stone and Patriarchal Bridges).
  • Chris Pine starred with the previous Jack Ryan, Ben Affleck, in the film 'Lucky Aces' (2006). Affleck, in turn, filmed with one of his predecessors, Alec Baldwin, in 'Pearl Harbor' (2001), and Baldwin with his successor Harrison Ford – in 'Working Girl' (1988). In addition, Pine and Baldwin worked together in 'Dream House' (2012).
  • Initially, Jack Bender was the director of the film, but due to commitments to work on another project, he was replaced by Kenneth Branagh.
  • Kevin Costner was actually the first actor offered the role of Jack Ryan in "The Hunt for Red October" (1990), but he turned it down to star in "Dances with Wolves" (1990). Incidentally, "The Hunt for Red October" (1990) was the first film to feature the character Jack Ryan.
  • Kenneth Branagh had previously played British, German, Australian, and American characters. In this film, he played a Russian character for the first time.
  • Colm Feore had a supporting role in "The Sum of All Fears" (2002), which is a previous reboot of the Jack Ryan franchise starring Ben Affleck.
  • Chris Pine said that the most challenging part of his role was making Jack Ryan a compelling character, because unlike Jason Bourne or James Bond, Ryan's greatest weapon is his intellect.
  • Chris Pine broke his finger while filming fight scenes.
  • As part of preparing for filming, director Kenneth Branagh read all of Tom Clancy's books about Jack Ryan and watched all the films featuring the character.
  • Approximately 80 percent of the film was shot on film, and the remaining 20 percent digitally.
  • Digital filming was carried out using a Red camera.
  • The majority of the film was shot in London. Some scenes were filmed in Liverpool and New York.
  • The original screenplay by Adam Cozad was titled "Dubai" and was intended to be an action film starring Eric Bana. However, Paramount Studios asked Cozad to rewrite the script and change the protagonist to Jack Ryan.
  • One small scene in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour at the 40th minute was cut from the Russian theatrical release.
  • At the 79th minute, during the chase, the GPS shows the hero driving along a straight, uninterrupted street, although the footage of the chase itself shows the street ending at a building.
  • Jack's helicopter was shot down in 2003, and he spent another eight months in hospital. The events in the film are said to take place 10 years later. However, when Jack’s girlfriend finds a movie ticket for 'Sorry, Wrong Number', the date on the ticket is September 21, 2012, meaning only 9 years have passed.
  • The film mentions that the antagonist’s son died in 2004 at the age of 9. Alexander Borovsky first appeared in the States in 2004 at the age of 9. However, when Alexander Borovsky/Chiverin is first introduced to the audience, his parents tell him he is 21 years old. This suggests the year is 2016, but several facts indicate otherwise.
  • When identifying visitors on the security guard's screen, a message appears in what looks like Russian that says 'Data match failed'. The authors likely meant 'No matches found'.
  • Adam Cozad's original script was titled "Dubai" and was intended to be an action film starring Eric Bana. However, Paramount Pictures asked Cozad to rewrite the script and change the protagonist to Jack Ryan.
  • Jack's helicopter was shot down in 2003, and he spent another eight months in the hospital. The events of the film are said to take place ten years later. However, when Jack's girlfriend finds a movie ticket for "Sorry, Wrong Number," the date on the ticket is September 21, 2012, meaning only nine years had passed.
  • When identifying visitors, the security monitor displays a message that is supposedly in Russian: "Match data failed." The authors likely meant "No matches found."
