What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Mark Helprin's novel "Winter's Tale" (1983).
  • Tom Hiddleston, Garrett Hedlund, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Luke Evans, Liam Hemsworth, and Benjamin Walker were considered for the role of Peter Lake, but Colin Farrell ultimately landed the part.
  • Bella Heathcote, Lily Collins, Sarah Gadon, Gabriella Wilde, and Elizabeth Olsen auditioned for the role that ultimately went to Jessica Brown Findlay.
  • Hans Zimmer composed much of the film's music before being forced to leave the project to complete his work on «12 Years a Slave» (2013) and «The Amazing Spider-Man 2» (2014). Zimmer brought in his friend Rupert Gregson-Williams to finish the film's soundtrack.
  • Originally, the company Rhythm and Hues was hired to work on the film's visual effects, but it went bankrupt in 2013. Another company, Framestore, completed the work on the film.
  • In the scene where Somes goes to Lucifer to obtain permission to enter the north of the city, Lucifer is reading Stephen Hawking's «A Brief History of Time».
  • In the moment when Peter Lake and Beverly Penn are riding away from Pearly Somes on horseback through the forest, different horses are used in different shots. First, it’s a white horse with a gray mane, then one with a completely white muzzle and white mane, and then again a gray horse with black lips.
  • When Peter tries to turn the valve on the broken stove, it's visible that the needle on the pressure gauge has fallen off due to the vibrations. But in the next frame, it shows a decrease in steam pressure.
