Chuck Palahniuk appeared in a cameo role as an airplane passenger who sits next to Victor at the end of the film.
Work on the film was completed three days before its premiere screening at the Sundance Film Festival.
In the scene where Victor chokes on a piece of meat, Sam Rockwell, who played the role, was actually eating watermelon.
Work on the film was planned to begin in 2006, but the screenwriter and director, Clark Gregg, was busy filming the comedy television series "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (2006-2023). By July 2007, Gregg had cast Sam Rockwell in the lead role and assembled the rest of the cast, and filming began in New Jersey shortly thereafter.
