What's left behind the scenes

  • Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson, along with a team of three, spent 14 months traveling to 24 countries to film this amazing movie.
  • The film was shot using a very expensive, large-format TODD-AO 70mm camera. For this, Ron Fricke created a special computer system that allowed him to capture incredible, time-stretched shots.
  • Baraka is an ancient Persian word meaning “blessing” or “beatitude”.
  • The first film with 8,000 resolution, made from the original 65mm negative. At the time of filming, there was only one scanner in the world capable of such capture.
  • Director Ron Fricke invented a special camera for filming this movie because he found IMAX cameras too cumbersome.
  • In the end credits, in the list of filming locations, Vatican City is listed as a location in Italy. In reality, it is a separate state, even though Vatican City is entirely within Italy.
  • Baraka is an ancient Persian word meaning "good deed," "bliss."
