What's left behind the scenes

  • Newspapers refused to publish the original advertisement for this film – a photograph of a prepared rat on a plate.
  • The cockroaches that Jean Hill and Mink Stool are forced to eat in the castle are actually raisins.
  • Production designer Vincent Peranio prepared a real rat to be "eaten" during the opening credits.
  • Homeless people, specifically brought in for filming, played most of the extras in Mortville. They had to be filmed quickly because they had a tendency to wander off.
  • Production designer Vincent Peranio prepared a real rat so that it could be ‘eaten’ during the opening credits.
