Short description
On the way to meet with an independent artist in the South, newlywed art dealer Madeleine is convinced by her husband, George, that they should stop to meet his family in North Carolina. Madeleine's affluent lifestyle clashes with the family, but she befriends George's wide-eyed and pregnant sister-in-law, Ashley, who is nearing her due date. Through the family, Madeleine gains greater insight into George's character.

What's left behind the scenes

  • When first reviewing the script, Alessandro Nivola didn't notice that his character was supposed to sing an anthem. This was discovered only a few days before filming that very scene, when there was practically no time for rehearsals. Due to the film's limited budget, his singing was recorded live.
  • Embeth Davidtz was cast as Madeline at the last moment and appeared on set literally the day before filming began.
