• The idea for the film originated with director and screenwriter Jafar Panahi while he was imprisoned between July 2022 and February 2023, an imprisonment that ended with a hunger strike (although he was sentenced to six years in prison). After his release, Panahi repeatedly spoke with other former prisoners, who convinced him to make this film.
• The film was shot secretly, as no official filming permit was obtained. Furthermore, the actresses in the film were filmed mostly without a hijab, the wearing of which is mandatory in Iran. Towards the end of the filming period, police officers did appear and even threatened the film crew with serious trouble, but everything worked out and the filmmakers were able to complete their work on the film.
