What's left behind the scenes

  • To somewhat lighten the atmosphere, which was oppressive due to filming in a remote location, director John Huston (1906-1987) gifted all the leading actors with gold-inlaid pistols with bullets engraved with the names of other cast members. He said the idea was that when someone wanted to kill someone, they could use a 'personalized' bullet. Huston's plan worked, and filming went smoothly.
