Short description
Mowgli has been living in the man-village with his little stepbrother Ranjan and his best friend Shanti. But the man-cub still has that jungle rhythm in his heart, and he misses his old buddies Baloo and Bagheera. When Mowgli wanders back to the wild for some swingin' fun, he soon finds the man-eating tiger Shere Khan is lurking in the shadows and planning his revenge.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, the release of the cartoon, like many other modern Disney sequels, was planned for direct-to-DVD release.
  • John Goodman recorded his voice for Baloo the bear in New Orleans, while Haley Joel Osment voiced Mowgli while in California.
  • Kaa the snake became the second Disney character to be initially voiced by Sterling Holloway and then, many years later, by Jim Cummings. A similar replacement previously occurred with Winnie the Pooh.
  • The character of King Louie the orangutan did not appear in the sequel because the studio would have had to pay a certain amount to the heirs of Louis Prima, who voiced him in the original 1967 film. With the exception of King Louie the orangutan, Winifred the elephant, and the wolves who raised Mowgli, all of the other characters also appear in the sequel.
  • John Goodman recorded his voiceover for Baloo in New Orleans, while Haley Joel Osment voiced Mowgli while in California.
  • At one time, work was planned on a cartoon "The Jungle Book 3", in which Baloo and Shere Khan would have captured and sold characters to Russia. Mowgli and his friends would have had to come to their rescue, and being in captivity would have completely changed Shere Khan. In this project, Shere Khan would have been voiced not by Tony Jay, but by Corey Burton. However, the idea of sequels was abandoned when John Lasseter became one of the leaders of Disney and Pixar, and the film's box office receipts were lower than expected.
