Short description
When a powerful criminal, who is connected to Bruce Wayne's ex-girlfriend, blames the Dark Knight for killing a crime lord, Batman decides to fight against him.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The majority of the animated film is based on the graphic novels 'Batman: Year One' and 'Batman: Year Two.' The flashback of Batman beginning his fight against crime is taken from the first novel. The concept and appearance of the antagonist nicknamed Phantasm are borrowed from the Reaper in the second novel.
  • Before settling on the Phantasm's design, resembling the Reaper from the graphic novel "Batman: Year Two," director and producer Bruce W. Timm considered around 20 different options. A blade in Phantasm's right hand was added later at the insistence of producer and screenwriter Alan Burnett.
  • The film was released on Blu-ray 24 years after its premiere.
