Short description
A depressed musician reunites with his lover in the desolate streets of Detroit. Though their romance has endured several centuries, it is tested by the arrival of her capricious and unpredictable younger sister.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Tom Hiddleston got the role that could have gone to Michael Fassbender.
  • Among the books that Eva packs for her trip to Detroit are Samuel Beckett's "Endgame," Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's "Don Quixote," and David Foster Wallace's "Infinite Jest."
  • In the initial version of the script, Eve was 2000 years old and a druid from a matriarchal Celtic tribe. Adam was 500-600 years old. Ultimately, Jim Jarmusch decided that Adam and Eve would know each other's true age, so they wouldn't have a reason to talk about it in the film.
  • Eva books plane tickets under the names Stephen Dedalus and Daisy Buchanan. As a true connoisseur and lover of literature, she chose these names for a reason. Stephen Dedalus is one of the main characters in James Joyce's "Ulysses," and Daisy Buchanan is the name of the main character in F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby."
  • The morning after the club. Adam and Eve enter a room. Seeing a dead friend on the couch, Eva drops a closed flask, and then blood flows from an open flask lying on the floor, with the cap nearby.
  • According to the director, he drew inspiration for the film from Mark Twain’s “The Diaries of Adam and Eve.”
  • Among the books Eva packs for the trip to Detroit, one can spot “Endgame” by Samuel Beckett, “Don Quixote” by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, and “Infinite Jest” by David Foster Wallace.
