Kito Kugan was to play 15-year-old Kenny, but he was already 20 years old, and was 22 months older than Christina Applegate, who played alongside him.
Christina Applegate gained almost 4.5 kilograms for the role of a 17-year-old teenage girl. After filming, she lost almost all of this weight and returned to her role in the series 'Married... with Children'.
The original script was written with Winona Ryder in mind for the role of Sue Ellen, but she declined as she was already filming Tim Burton's drama "Edward Scissorhands" (1990) and Richard Benjamin's "Mermaids" (1990) simultaneously. Justine Bateman was initially cast as Sue Ellen, but soon left the project. Christina Applegate was then cast after Ed O'Neill, who co-starred with her in the series "Married... with Children" (1987-1997), gave her the script to read.
