The film is based on Stieg Larsson's novel 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' (Män som hatar kvinnor, 2004).
Erik Cress hastily left the project for confidential reasons, and the film had to be completed by Jens Fischer, who shot the majority of it.
The original Swedish title of the film translates literally as 'Men Who Hate Women.'
When Lisbeth sends an encrypted letter to Chume, the screen displays "Decryption" instead of "Encryption".
At the beginning of the film, Lisbeth had a Canon camera. However, later the computer identifies it as a Nikon.
In the scene with young Mikael, the camera pans down, showing the boy in modern shoes.
