What's left behind the scenes

  • In 2008, Daniel Radcliffe was cast as young writer Allen Ginsberg, but due to his commitment to filming the final two installments of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” he was unable to be on set in time for the film. Jesse Eisenberg was then chosen for the role, with Chris Evans to play young footballer and future writer Jack Kerouac, and Ben Whishaw cast as Lucien Carr, Ginsberg’s lover who introduced them. However, due to funding issues, filming never began in 2009. Therefore, when director John Krokidas returned to the project two years later, he again offered the role to Radcliffe, ultimately assembling a new cast.
  • Filming took place from March to May 2012 in New York, as well as in its Queens borough and the East Village neighborhood in Lower Manhattan.
  • This film marked John Krokidas's debut in feature-length filmmaking.
