What's left behind the scenes

  • The weapon called "Nemesis" (it is actually called the M134) is a development of General Electric. However, an exclusive version was prepared specifically for the film.
  • The building that explodes in the movie (of course, not for real) actually exists – it is the administrative center of Toronto.
  • According to Paul Anderson (the screenwriter and producer), the name of Dr. Isaacs (Ayn Glenn) is a sign of respect for actor Jason Isaacs, whose voice we can hear at the very beginning of the first film.
  • The telephone headset used by Major Kane is a SonyEricsson HBH-65 bluetooth headset.
  • Apart from scenes involving Eric Mabius, the only character who carries over from the first film will be Alice (Milla Jovovich).
  • The film's teaser was specifically styled after commercials advertising cosmetic products. The advertisement stated that the new skin cream contained T-cells. In films and video games, mutations began due to the T-virus. The teaser did not include a single frame from the second film; it consisted entirely of footage specifically shot for the advertisement or frames from the first film.
  • Emily Bergl was originally cast as Claire Redfield, but later left the project.
  • The Nemesis costume weighed approximately 30 pounds (about 13.6 kg). His machine gun, which he holds with one hand, weighed 65 pounds (29.5 kg).
  • The construction of the church set took seven weeks.
  • The word "zombie" is never spoken throughout the film. However, it can be spotted in the end credits.
  • A shot at the end of the film, where zombies lift their heads to look at the flying rocket, is a frame-by-frame reproduction of the ending of "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis" (1999).
  • The film's director, Alexander Witt, played a cameo role as a sniper on the roof of Raccoon City Hall.
  • Ben Moody, the former lead guitarist for the rock band "Evanescence," appears as a zombie in one of the film's episodes, as mentioned in the DVD commentary.
  • Tobey Maguire and Josh Hartnett were originally intended to play Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy.
  • At 00:07:50, it is visible that Milla Jovovich is wearing a blue sweater (on her right shoulder), and in the next shot, she is in a white sheet.
  • At the 8th minute of the film, it can be noticed that Alice is wearing a blue sweatshirt, and in the next frame, she is already wearing a white sheet.
  • Raccoon City is a fictional city located in the USA. However, at the 6th minute of the film, when a truck crashes into an SUV during the evacuation, the CN Tower, located in Toronto, can be seen in the background in one of the shots.
  • At the 6th minute of the film, a truck rams into an SUV, crushing the car's body on the right side. As the SUV rolls onto its roof and slides down the road after the impact, a bar welded to the undercarriage for attaching a film camera becomes visible. Also, when the SUV is lying on its roof after the crash, the dents on the right side of the body are already gone.
  • At the 7th minute, Jill reloads the same pistol twice. During the second reload, a holster appears on her shoulders that was not present in the previous frame.
  • At the 12th minute of the film, Carlos and two mercenaries run to the edge of the roof from which the girl jumped. In the next frame, as the camera flies over Carlos, only one mercenary is standing with him at the edge.
  • When Alice enters the gun shop at the 19th minute of the film, she is wearing only a medical gown. In the next frame, as she takes a pistol from the display case, she is suddenly wearing blue jeans. When Alice removes the gown, she is not wearing jeans. When she feels sick from the previously administered virus and falls to the floor, she is wearing blue jeans again.
  • At the 30th minute of the film, a lone mercenary can be seen near the van, whom the zombies avoid.
  • At the 33rd minute of the film, you can notice that the back of the actress playing the zombie emerging from the ground is not made up.
  • At the 34th minute of the film, a program displaying data on the level of infection is shown on the laptop screen, but the lower right corner of the screen indicates that the connection is lost.
  • At the 37th minute of the film, a lone zombie walks around the parking lot with only its face made up.
  • When Nemesis fires a grenade launcher at the sniper on the roof at the 38th minute of the film, pyrotechnic equipment standing on the roof can be seen in the left part of the frame during the explosion.
  • When El-Jay looks around in fear at the 40th minute of the film, you can notice that the slain mercenary lying on the right side of the frame is still breathing.
  • At the 42nd minute of the film, Alice says that a nuclear charge will be dropped on the city to eliminate all traces of the infection, and a cover story about an accident at a nuclear power plant will be used. However, even a complete meltdown of a nuclear reactor is not capable of causing a nuclear explosion.
  • When Nemesis kills Peyton with a burst of machine gun fire at the 44th minute of the film, an electronic ammunition counter in the upper left corner of the screen shows that he has approximately 3900 rounds remaining. When Nemesis starts shooting at Ellis, Jill, and Terry after a short pause, the number of remaining rounds changes to 3600.
  • When El-Jay stops the car carrying Jill and Terry at the 49th minute of the film, it can be noticed that rain is falling only on the left side of the frame near the car, and not throughout the entire scene.
  • At the 49th minute of the film, Jill, Terry, and El-Jay pass by a car that has crashed into a fire hydrant. In this shot, it can be noticed that the water is not coming from the hydrant, but from behind the car on the left.
  • At the 53rd minute of the film, Jill finds Terry's camera, but instead of being in recording mode, it is in playback mode, which shows the moment of her death.
  • At the 65th minute of the film, Alice hits a guard in protective gear on the head, and his helmet's visor shatters into numerous glass fragments upon impact. This is an inaccuracy, as the visors of modern police helmets are made of plastics and polymers to prevent fragmentation.
  • At the 73rd minute of the film, El-Jay prepares to punch Kane with his left hand, but in the next frame, he punches him with his right.
  • At the 77th minute of the film, the survivors take off in a helicopter at night, however, morning abruptly begins shortly after. When the helicopter crashes due to being hit by a shockwave, one frame shows the morning pink sky changing to a bright blue daytime sky.
  • When Alice's dead body is filmed in profile at the 79th minute of the film, her eyes are closed, however, in the next frame, filmed head-on, both of her eyes are open.
  • At the 81st minute of the film, the oxygen mask hose connected to Alice initially points upwards, then downwards in the next frame, and subsequently disappears altogether.
  • In the 81st minute of the film, when Dr. Isaac approaches Alice's glass tank, she awakens. After a brief dialogue, he turns his back to her, and in the following shot, Alice is seen unconscious again.
  • In the 84th minute of the film, Alice stops a pen a few millimeters from an assistant's eye, but in the next shot, the pen is noticeably further away.
  • According to Paul Anderson (the screenwriter and producer), the name of Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glen) is a sign of respect for actor Jason Isaacs, whose voiceover we can hear at the very beginning of the first film.
  • Major Kane uses a SonyEricsson HBH-65 Bluetooth headset.
  • Excluding scenes with Eric Mabius, the only character to carry over from the first film will be Alice (Milla Jovovich).
  • The character of Dr. Ashford was named in honor of the Ashford family in the “Resident Evil” video game series. However, in the film, he is a positive character, while in the video games, he is a negative one.
  • The film utilizes plotlines from the video games “Resident Evil 2” (1998) and “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis” (1999).
  • During the final showdown, we can hear the words “Finish him.” This phrase is a quote from the “Mortal Kombat” video game series. Paul W.S. Anderson directed the film adaptation of this game.
  • The opening scene, where Alice wakes up in the hospital and up to the moment she reloads her shotgun, consists entirely of footage from the first film.
  • The DVD for Region 1 contains approximately 12 minutes of deleted scenes.
  • When Umbrella Corporation employees are evacuating people from the first house, an advertisement for the cosmetic product “Regenerate” can be seen on the television screen, with footage taken from the film’s teaser.
  • The film's teaser was specifically designed in the style of commercials advertising cosmetic products. The video stated that the new skin cream contained T-cells. In films and video games, mutations began due to the T-virus. The teaser did not contain a single frame from the second film; it consisted entirely of footage specifically shot for the teaser, or footage from the first film.
  • Emily Bergl was originally cast to play Claire Redfield, but later left the project.
  • The Nemesis costume weighed approximately 30 pounds (about 13.6 kg). His machine gun, which he holds in one hand, weighed 65 pounds (29.5 kg).
  • The word “zombie” is never spoken during the course of the film. However, it can be spotted in the end credits.
  • The shot at the end of the film, in which zombies raise their heads to look at the flying rocket, is a frame-by-frame recreation of the ending of “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis” (1999).
  • Ben Moody, former lead guitarist for the rock band Evanescence, appears as a zombie in one of the film's episodes, as mentioned in the DVD commentary.
