• The film was shot over five days in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills and over 24 days in Toronto, the hometown of director David Cronenberg.
• Viggo Mortensen and Rachel Weisz were considered for the roles of Dr. Stafford and Havana Segrand, but both left the project due to scheduling conflicts. John Cusack and Julianne Moore eventually took on the roles.
• Writer and screenwriter Bruce Wagner appeared in the film in a cameo role as a bald driver in dark glasses and a black suit, who stands in the background while Benji insults Arnold in front of the children's hospital. Notably, Wagner worked as a limousine driver before becoming a famous writer.
• The award that Agatha hits Havana with is a Genie Award, a Canadian award for cinematic achievement that existed until 2012. The film's director, David Cronenberg, won this award five times.
