- While preparing for her role in this film, Halle Berry visited a call center and spoke with operators.
- The idea for the film came to screenwriter Richard D'Ovidio when his wife watched an interview with an emergency service operator on television. Intrigued by the topic, he visited a call center in Los Angeles and discovered that it had its own emergency generators, bulletproof windows, and the building itself was surrounded by a moat.
- The scene where the fuel attendant burns was filmed in one take.
