What's left behind the scenes

  • When Rufus Sewell's character has his polo mallet sharpened to injure Banderas' character, it's an indirect reference to "A Knight's Tale" (2001), where during the decisive duel, the blunt tip is removed from Sewell's character's lance. Similarly, at the end of the film, Armand lectures Zorro about having "lost everything" for the sake of his mask, the same thing Sewell's character says to Ledger when he is in prison.
