What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming took only 48 days.
  • Director Stanley Donen desperately wanted to shoot the entire film on location to showcase the changing seasons on screen, but the studio cut the project's budget, forcing him to abandon those plans. For a long time afterward, Donen couldn't watch "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" because of the sets that were used.
  • The scene of chopping wood, performed to the tune of “Lonesome Polecat”, was filmed in one take.
  • The studio considered "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" a "B" movie, placing greater hopes on the musical film "Brigadoon" (Vincent Minnelli, 1954), which is why they cut Stanley Donen's film's budget.
