Short description
Joe Gideon is at the top of the heap, one of the most successful directors and choreographers in musical theater. But he can feel his world slowly collapsing around him - his obsession with work has almost destroyed his personal life, and only his bottles of pills keep him going.

- Roy Scheider learned a lot from director Bob Fosse. Since Scheider's character constantly smokes, Fosse taught Scheider the "correct" smoker's cough. Before filming the hospital scene, Fosse told the actor in detail what it was like to experience a heart attack.
- Anne Reinking, who essentially played herself, auditioned several times before being cast as Kate.
- Released on VHS, this film was the first in history to feature a stereo soundtrack.
